President Advocate Duma Boko has departed for Zambia to participate in the inaugural African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) Digital Trade and Services Forum, taking place from May 8 to 9 under the theme “Unlocking the Power of Digital Trade under AfCFTA.”
The high-level forum brings together heads of state, ministers, policy experts, and private sector leaders to explore how digital trade can drive economic growth, innovation, and integration across the African continent. It marks a critical step in advancing the implementation of the AfCFTA, with a focus on digital platforms, e-commerce, and cross-border services.
President Boko’s participation signals Botswana’s commitment to embracing digital transformation and leveraging technology as a catalyst for inclusive economic development. The forum also offers an opportunity for member states to collaborate on policy frameworks that support a harmonized digital trade environment across Africa.
While in Lusaka, President Boko will also pay a courteous call on his Zambian counterpart, President Hakainde Hichilema. The two leaders are expected to discuss bilateral cooperation, regional integration, and shared strategies for maximizing the benefits of the AfCFTA agreement.
President Boko is accompanied by a delegation that includes Minister of International Relations, Dr. Phenyo Butale, and Minister of Trade and Entrepreneurship, Mr. Tiroeaone Ntsima, along with other senior government officials. Their presence underscores Botswana’s proactive approach to digital economy initiatives and regional economic diplomacy.
The AfCFTA Digital Trade and Services Forum comes at a pivotal time as Africa seeks to position itself as a competitive player in the global digital economy. President Boko’s involvement highlights Botswana’s readiness to contribute to and benefit from a digitally connected, economically empowered Africa.
