President Advocate Duma Gideon Boko of Botswana has embarked on an important working visit to the Kingdom of Lesotho from 15th to 17th July 2025. The trip, undertaken at the invitation of Lesotho’s Prime Minister Ntsokoane Samuel Matekane, aims to bolster cooperation and deepen the already strong diplomatic ties between the two Southern African nations.
During his stay, President Boko is scheduled to hold high-level talks with His Majesty King Letsie III. The discussions will focus on enhancing bilateral relations with particular attention on strategic sectors such as education, defence, security, and judicial matters. Both leaders are expected to exchange views on key regional issues affecting Southern Africa, reinforcing their commitment to collective stability and development.
A highlight of the visit includes a courtesy call on Prime Minister Matekane, signaling the friendly and collaborative spirit between Botswana and Lesotho’s governments. Additionally, President Boko will tour several strategic sites, notably Tsinyane — the earmarked location for the ambitious Lesotho–Botswana Water Transfer Project (L-BWT). This joint initiative is designed to improve regional water security, boost climate resilience, and drive socio-economic progress for communities in both countries.
President Boko’s itinerary also features participation in the 62nd birthday celebrations of His Majesty King Letsie III, an event that underscores the strong cultural and diplomatic ties between Botswana and Lesotho. Furthermore, the President plans to engage with Batswana living in Lesotho, using the platform to communicate Botswana’s government development agenda and address concerns affecting nationals abroad.
Accompanying President Boko on this significant visit is Hon. Dr. Phenyo Butale, Botswana’s Minister of International Relations, along with senior government officials. Their presence highlights the visit’s importance and Botswana’s dedication to fostering robust partnerships in the region.
This working visit marks a continued commitment by both Botswana and Lesotho to collaborate on shared goals and strengthen cooperation that promotes peace, development, and prosperity across Southern Africa.
This visit represents a crucial step in reinforcing Botswana-Lesotho relations and advancing shared regional development objectives.
