Minister of Sports and Arts, Jacob Kelebeng, has unveiled a transformative housing initiative aimed at constructing five houses in each of the seven wards within the Kweneng District. The project, announced during a house handover ceremony in Maboane Village, is part of a broader commitment to development, youth employment, and poverty eradication in the region.

Kelebeng emphasized that the initiative will be implemented in partnership with private companies, showcasing a collaborative approach to community upliftment. By bringing together government resources and private sector support, the project seeks not only to provide shelter but also to stimulate job creation, particularly among young people.

“This is more than just a housing project,” said Minister Kelebeng during his address. “It is a development strategy that places youth empowerment and poverty eradication at the centre of everything we do. The construction of these homes will directly involve local youth, offering them employment, skills training, and a renewed sense of purpose.”

The initiative signals a strong commitment from the government to tackle socio-economic challenges at the grassroots level. Kweneng District, like many rural areas in Botswana, has seen rising demand for affordable housing and sustainable job opportunities. Through this programme, Kelebeng hopes to address both needs simultaneously.

The house handover ceremony in Maboane Village marked the first step in what is set to become a district-wide movement focused on inclusive growth and human development. The Minister noted that this is just the beginning, and similar efforts are being explored in other parts of the country to replicate the model if proven successful.

As Botswana continues to prioritize infrastructure and human capital development, initiatives like this are expected to play a critical role in strengthening communities and building a more resilient future for all citizens. Minister Kelebeng’s commitment reinforces the government’s vision of sustainable development, where youth are not only beneficiaries but active participants in nation-building.
