President Advocate Duma Boko has highlighted Bangladesh as a potential strategic partner for Botswana in agriculture, particularly in animal husbandry and livestock production. The President made the remarks while welcoming the Bangladesh High Commissioner designate to Botswana, Mr Shah Ahmed Shafi, at the Office of the President on November 18.
President Boko noted that Bangladesh has a cattle population exceeding 24 million, while Botswana aims to reach five million. He said Botswana can learn from Bangladesh’s experience to achieve its livestock growth targets.
Mr Shafi, along with envoys from Denmark, Venezuela, and the Dominican Republic, presented their letters of credence to President Boko. The ceremony provided an opportunity to discuss potential areas of cooperation.
President Boko recalled that Botswana had previously sent a team of farmers on a benchmarking mission to Bangladesh. He expressed hope that the lessons learned would strengthen Botswana’s agricultural sector and increase its contribution to the national economy.
The President also praised the strong bilateral relations between Botswana and Bangladesh. He highlighted previous calls by the Bangladesh Minister of Labour for a Memorandum of Understanding between the two countries. Discussions include issues such as visa-free movement and enhanced collaboration in agriculture and trade.
The meeting underscores Botswana’s commitment to building international partnerships that support economic diversification and sustainable growth in the agricultural sector.
