After more than 15 years of dedicated service, Kitso Robert will step down as leader of the Botswana Bowling Association, with the final roll set to take place tomorrow at the elective congress at the Gaborone Club. His tenure has spanned multiple terms, during which he contributed to the growth and development of bowling in Botswana, establishing a legacy of leadership and commitment to the sport. Members of the association now face the task of selecting a new leader who can build on his achievements and guide the sport into its next phase.
Two candidates have declared their intention to contest the top position: Marea Modutlwa and Ookeditse Lekang. Modutlwa brings extensive experience as a seasoned sports administrator, having served in various roles within the BBA national executive committee. Her record includes positions as executive secretary from 2020 to 2021, technical director from 2022 to 2023, competitions secretary in 2024, and vice president since 2025. Her long-standing involvement positions her as a candidate with deep knowledge of the organisation’s operations and strategic objectives.
Speaking ahead of the congress, Modutlwa highlighted her professional qualifications and commitment to advancing sport leadership. She holds a Diploma in Advanced Sports Management, which she says equips her to execute administrative duties effectively and contribute to the professionalisation of sport in Botswana. “I am a well-rounded administrator who has risen through the ranks of the organisation. I am empowered to execute my sport administrator’s duties effectively,” she stated.
The elective congress is expected to be a pivotal moment for the BBA, as members will decide on the future direction of the association. With leadership playing a critical role in sport development, the new president will be tasked with fostering participation, improving competitive structures, and enhancing the visibility of bowling at both national and regional levels.
As the association prepares for this leadership transition, members and stakeholders anticipate a competitive yet constructive process. The outcome of the congress will shape the strategic priorities of the Botswana Bowling Association, ensuring that the sport continues to grow and maintain its place as a key part of the country’s sporting landscape.
