The Botswana Police Service (BPS) Boxing Club delivered a standout performance at the 2nd Annual University of Botswana (UB) Open Boxing Tournament, held from July 4th to 6th, 2025, at the UB Indoor Sports Arena in Gaborone. Competing under the banner of discipline, excellence, and social responsibility, the team secured an impressive total of four medals: two gold, one silver, and one bronze.
The club was represented by a five-member squad comprising two female and three male athletes, showcasing a balanced and determined lineup. Under the guidance of team manager Assistant Superintendent William Mogapi and head coach Inspector Majority Ramatsipele, the BPS athletes demonstrated remarkable skill and sportsmanship throughout the three-day event.
Held under the powerful theme “Gloves On Against Gender-Based Violence,” the tournament was not only a platform for athletic competition but also a significant call to action in the ongoing fight against Gender-Based Violence (GBV). The event brought together athletes, officials, and community members to promote awareness and encourage dialogue around GBV through the unifying spirit of sport.
The success of the BPS Boxing Club at this year’s edition reflects both their commitment to athletic excellence and their role as champions of positive social change. Their performance stood out among several participating clubs and further cemented BPS Boxing Club’s reputation as one of the country’s top contenders in the amateur boxing scene.
Beyond the medals, the tournament served as a reminder of the power of sport in addressing critical societal issues. Through events like the UB Open, institutions such as the Botswana Police Service continue to lead by example—using their platform to inspire action and unity within communities.
With strong leadership, dedicated athletes, and a clear commitment to both sport and social responsibility, the BPS Boxing Club remains a force to watch in Botswana’s boxing circuit.
