The tournament, often referred to as the “World Cup of Tennis,” will be held at the state-of-the-art National Tennis Centre in Gaborone and will feature 15 nations from across the continent.

The high-profile event will be officially opened by Botswana’s Vice President, Mr Ndaba Nkosinathi Gaolathe, marking a significant moment in the country’s sporting calendar. This is the first time Botswana hosts the Davis Cup Africa Group V qualifiers, reflecting the country’s growing stature in international tennis and its commitment to sports development.

The nations competing include Botswana, Mozambique, Seychelles, Madagascar, South Sudan, Ethiopia, Cameroon, Rwanda, Lesotho, Tanzania, Uganda, Djibouti, Libya, and Congo. These countries will battle it out over four days for a chance to advance to Group IV in the prestigious global competition.

The Davis Cup is organised by the International Tennis Federation (ITF) and is one of the most historic and significant tournaments in tennis, bringing together national teams to compete for international glory. For Group V nations, this tournament presents an opportunity to climb the ranks in world tennis, gain international experience, and showcase emerging talent.

The National Tennis Centre in Gaborone, which recently underwent upgrades, is expected to offer world-class facilities to players, officials, and fans. Local organisers, together with the Botswana Tennis Association and ITF representatives, have been working around the clock to ensure that all logistics, hospitality, and technical requirements meet international standards.

Hosting the Davis Cup Group V is expected to have far-reaching impacts not just on the local tennis scene but also on tourism, youth development, and regional sports diplomacy. Thousands of spectators, including international visitors, are expected to attend the tournament, boosting local businesses and further positioning Botswana as a hub for international sports.

With anticipation building, local tennis enthusiasts and the broader sporting community are eagerly looking forward to witnessing this continental showdown. The four-day tournament promises not only high-level competition but also a celebration of African sportsmanship and unity through tennis.
