Botswana’s rising sprint star, Letsile Tebogo, secured a strong second-place finish in the men’s 200m at the Monaco Diamond League meet on Friday. Tebogo crossed the finish line in 19.97 seconds, finishing just behind the reigning Olympic 100m champion and three-time World 200m champion, Noah Lyles, who won with a time of 19.88 seconds.

Despite the impressive timing, Tebogo expressed some disappointment with his performance, noting that it fell short of his personal best and recent form. Speaking in a post-race interview, the sprinter pointed to the shortened warm-up period as a factor that impacted his readiness. The call room was held about 20 minutes before the scheduled race time, which limited the athletes’ usual warm-up routines.

“That is nonetheless not an excuse,” Tebogo stated confidently. “We all came and showed up, and I now have an idea of what to work on.”

Coming off a standout performance just a week earlier, where he clocked a world-leading 19.76 seconds to claim victory at the Eugene Diamond League, Tebogo was clearly up against stiff competition. Lyles, running in the outer lane seven, pushed the pace aggressively, demonstrating why he remains one of the top sprinters globally.

Tebogo’s showing in Monaco underscores his growing consistency and potential to challenge the world’s best. While he was not fully satisfied, the experience has provided him with valuable insights that will shape his training and race strategy moving forward.

As the season progresses, all eyes will be on Tebogo to see how he hones his technique and leverages his speed to continue climbing the ranks in international sprinting. Botswana’s sprint sensation is steadily proving that he belongs on the global stage, and his determination suggests even greater achievements are on the horizon.
