The First Lady of Botswana, Ms Kaone Boko, officially launched the Mpepu Programme yesterday morning (25/11/2025) in Takatokwane. The initiative marks a major step in national efforts to improve the wellbeing of children and support families across the country.

The Mpepu Programme focuses on strengthening maternal and infant care while addressing broader welfare challenges affecting children in rural and underprivileged communities. Speaking at the launch, the First Lady emphasized the importance of early childhood support. She noted that the nation’s long-term development relies on children being healthy, protected, and well-nurtured.

Mrs Boko highlighted that the programme aims to empower families with knowledge and resources to ensure safe pregnancies, proper infant nutrition, and responsive caregiving. She stressed that collaboration between government, communities, and development partners is essential for the success of child-centred initiatives like Mpepu.

Dignitaries present at the launch included Deputy Commissioner of Police, Operations, Deputy Commissioner Katlholo Mosimanegape, Director of the Gender and Child Protection Branch, Senior Assistant Commissioner of Police Goitseone Ngono, and other senior officers.

The Mpepu Programme is expected to improve maternal and child health outcomes, strengthen family support systems, and contribute to the overall development and protection of children in Botswana.
