Assistant Minister for State President, Hon. Maipelo Mophuting, has called on public relations professionals to embrace their roles as nation-builders and catalysts for meaningful change. Delivering the vote of thanks at the Public Relations Officers’ Conference held in Mahalapye, she urged government communicators to see beyond routine tasks and recognize their strategic value in Botswana’s development journey.

Addressing a hall filled with communication officers from various ministries and government agencies, Hon. Mophuting emphasized that public relations is not just about media briefings and press statements—it is a key driver of national unity, transparency, and trust between government and citizens.

“You shall live by faith,” she declared, encouraging attendees to continue planning and communicating with purpose, even amid economic challenges. Drawing inspiration from history, she likened the current economic climate to the Great Depression of the 1930s, reminding delegates that such crises can become turning points. “That era produced the most dollar millionaires,” she said, highlighting how adversity can give rise to innovation, resilience, and lasting impact.

The Assistant Minister’s remarks resonated with the theme of the conference, which focused on strengthening the role of public relations in supporting government priorities, shaping public perception, and fostering national pride.

Her message served as both a motivational call and a strategic directive—underscoring that PR professionals are not mere messengers, but architects of public discourse and vital contributors to Botswana’s progress.

By urging communication officers to work with intention, agility, and faith in the country’s future, Hon. Mophuting reinforced the essential role they play in shaping a well-informed, connected, and forward-looking nation. As the conference concluded, delegates left with a renewed sense of purpose, ready to use their skills to inform, inspire, and influence Botswana’s path ahead.
