Veezo View, Puna Gabasiane-Molale, and KX Legit are among the local stars set to perform at this year’s highly anticipated Maitisong Festival. The cultural extravaganza will run from October 3 to 12 and will include international acts such as Mozambique’s dancer and choreographer Janeth Mulapha, participating through a partnership with Alliance Française, and South Africa-based dramaturg Alan Parker.
Festival director Jessica Lejowa said the event aims to foster collaboration between Botswana’s creative talent and respected international artistes. She highlighted a special showcase featuring South Africa’s Shy Music alongside a local choir.
The festival will feature a diverse mix of music, theatre, and other artistic showcases across multiple venues in Gaborone, including Maitisong Theatre, Botswana Craft, Main Mall, and the University of Botswana VAPA Theatre. “We want the festival to be accessible to the public,” Lejowa said.
Several shows will be offered at reduced fees. Opening night will feature a triple bill with saxophonist Sebaga Rabantheng, KX Legit, and New Rule. Discounted tickets will also apply to a children’s theatre performance by University of Botswana students titled Anansi. “We want to be more inclusive this year, hence we have entertainment tailored for children in the line-up,” Lejowa added, noting that children are regarded as a valuable audience by the festival.
Beyond headline performances, the programme includes a two-Sundays local products market at Maruapula School Campus, as well as curated workshops, master classes, and financial literacy sessions for artistes.
The 2025 Maitisong Festival is positioning itself as a platform that celebrates Botswana’s creative talent while fostering collaboration, inclusion, and skills development in the arts.
