In a move aligned with the government’s commitment to ensuring timely, cost-effective, and high-quality infrastructure delivery, the Minister of Transport and Infrastructure, Honourable Noah S.L.M Salakae, conducted a guided inspection of the ongoing Ghanzi–New Xade road project. The minister’s visit underscored the importance of delivering infrastructure that meets both national standards and community needs.

The 110km road project, which will significantly improve connectivity in the region, currently stands at 21% completion, closely tracking the projected 22% as of July 3. Despite the early stage, Minister Salakae expressed satisfaction with the progress made so far and encouraged the contractor to stay on track to meet the delivery timelines.

“I am pleased with the progress so far, but it is important that the contractor maintains momentum and delivers the project within the set schedule,” said Salakae. “This road is vital for the development and daily life of local communities, and its timely completion is essential.”

The project is more than just a road. It includes the development of access roads to the settlements of East and West Hanahai and the construction of permanent staff housing—essential additions that will support the project’s long-term sustainability and community impact.

The construction contract was awarded to Tau Grading and Building Construction, with Bothakga Burrow Botswana serving as the consulting engineers. Both companies bring valuable experience to a project seen as critical to the socio-economic transformation of the Ghanzi region.

Once completed, the Ghanzi–New Xade road is expected to enhance transportation, stimulate local trade, and provide better access to essential services such as healthcare and education for remote settlements.

The government continues to monitor infrastructure projects closely to ensure accountability, quality assurance, and community benefits. The Ghanzi–New Xade project serves as a reflection of Botswana’s broader infrastructure development agenda aimed at closing accessibility gaps and promoting inclusive growth across all districts.
