Ministry celebrates New Year babies

The Ministry of Health through a joint collaborative project called ‘Project Mabu’ with the South African High Commission in Botswana will donate hampers to first babies born on New Year’s Day, across all the 18 District Health Management Teams (DHMTS), annually. This means that the baby who was born first on New Year’s Day in each DHMT, will benefit from this initiative, starting this year.
The purpose of the project is to donate comprehensive hampers inclusive of key essentials necessary for new born babies, and an additional hamper which will be provided for the baby’s family, containing largely staple foods and clothing. The 2022 Project Mabu sponsors include: UNGWA Africa, CA Sales, Choppies Botswana, Woolworths Botswana, FLO-TEK and Kalahari Training Institute (KTI).
To officially launch this project, there will be two ceremonies held, one representing the Southern part of the country in Mmathethe on 3 June 2022 and another representing the Northern part in Maun on 8 June 2022. Both events will start at 0830hrs.
The Minister of Health, Hon. Dr Edwin G. Dikoloti together with the South African High Commissioner to Botswana, Her Excellency Ms Thaninga Shope-Soumah will lead the handover of the donations on behalf of the Ministry of Health and the South African High Commission in Botswana, respectively.
