Minister of Health, Hon. Dr Stephen Modise, toured the new Primary Hospital under construction in Moshupa this afternoon. The facility, originally scheduled for completion in 2022, remains unfinished, delaying access to critical healthcare for residents in the region. Dr Modise’s visit highlighted the government’s commitment to ensuring timely completion and improving local medical services.

During the site inspection, the contractor assured the Minister that all construction works will be finalized by April this year. Dr Modise emphasized the urgency of meeting this deadline, noting that every day of delay forces patients to travel long distances to Kanye, Thamaga, and Gaborone for essential health services. He urged strict adherence to timelines to prevent further disruption to healthcare delivery.

The new state of the art 70-bed facility is designed to provide comprehensive healthcare services. Key features include a combined A&E and Outpatient Department, Oral Health services, Sexual and Reproductive Health with Youth-Friendly Services, a fully equipped Pharmacy, Laboratory, and Radiology/X-ray unit.

Maternity care will be a central focus, with dedicated Labour and Delivery, Antenatal, and Postnatal services. General wards will cater to female, male, and paediatric patients, while an Isolation/Tuberculosis Ward will support infectious disease management. The facility will also include a fully functional Main Theatre to handle surgical procedures.

Once completed, the Moshupa Primary Hospital will significantly reduce travel times for residents seeking medical care. It is expected to enhance the quality and accessibility of healthcare in the region, supporting Botswana’s broader health infrastructure goals. The government continues to monitor progress closely to ensure the hospital opens as scheduled.
