The ninth edition of the highly anticipated Motokwe Integrated Show officially got underway today, drawing farmers, entrepreneurs, and community members together under the theme “Agribusiness and Agro-Tourism: Uplifting Farmers and Communities.” The two-day event, set to conclude tomorrow, shines a spotlight on the transformative potential of agriculture in driving rural development and economic recovery.

Speaking at the opening, Mr. Timon Kelebeng, chairperson of the Letlhakeng District Farmers’ Executive Committee and the lead organiser of the show, emphasized the relevance of the theme. He noted that the focus on agribusiness and agro-tourism aligns closely with Botswana’s ongoing national agenda to diversify the economy and unlock opportunities in the agricultural sector.

“This year’s theme is befitting as the country looks to agriculture not just for food security, but for job creation, tourism development, and community empowerment,” said Mr. Kelebeng.

The Motokwe Integrated Show has grown to become a vital platform for showcasing local agricultural products, innovations, and rural entrepreneurship. Farmers are displaying livestock, crops, and agro-based products, while also engaging in knowledge-sharing sessions on sustainable farming practices and value addition.

In addition to farming exhibitions, the event also features discussions on agro-tourism—a growing industry that blends agriculture with travel and hospitality to create income-generating opportunities for rural communities. Organisers believe agro-tourism can serve as a gateway for preserving cultural heritage, while promoting rural economies and attracting investment.

Stakeholders from government, private sector, and NGOs are in attendance, offering services ranging from agricultural finance and insurance to training and technology solutions aimed at improving productivity and market access.

The Motokwe Integrated Show continues to play a key role in uniting farmers, policy makers, and community leaders with the shared goal of transforming agriculture into a vibrant and inclusive sector. As the event draws to a close tomorrow, participants are optimistic that the knowledge and connections made here will yield lasting benefits for farmers and the broader Letlhakeng district.
