The Assistant Minister of Trade and Entrepreneurship Honourable Baratiwa Mathoothe has officially relaunched the revamped Mpatlise Application, a move set to redefine digital engagement across Botswana’s agricultural sector. The platform integrates products and services throughout the agriculture value chain, providing a digital marketplace that connects primary producers directly to buyers while also facilitating agricultural events and coordinated participation. Mpatlise offers critical support services including agro-processing, veterinary services, borehole management, and transportation solutions. The Assistant Minister praised the initiative, noting that it represents a strategic step toward a digitally empowered agricultural sector where technologists can collaborate to address national challenges such as Foot and Mouth disease outbreaks. He emphasized that the platform promotes digital inclusion, ensuring that even producers in remote areas can benefit from technology, while supporting government efforts to empower citizens, foster local innovation, and expand market access for small and medium-sized enterprises.
Mpatlise has evolved significantly since its initial launch in 2021, becoming a fully integrated digital ecosystem that now hosts over 3 000 products and has more than 12 000 registered users. According to Gradeware Solutions CEO Raphael Chifana, the platform enhances market access for farmers by offering data-driven insights, improved coordination across the agriculture value chain, and opportunities for collaboration with industry stakeholders. Chifana highlighted that agriculture remains a key driver of economic diversification in Botswana, and digital platforms such as Mpatlise can accelerate growth by connecting producers, service providers, and buyers more efficiently. The app allows farmers to access real-time information on market trends, demand for specific products, and available services, enabling them to make informed decisions and optimise productivity. By centralizing these services in a single digital platform, Mpatlise strengthens operational efficiency and reduces barriers for farmers seeking to reach broader markets.
The Assistant Minister underscored that the revamped Mpatlise App is more than a marketplace; it is a tool for national development and digital empowerment. By linking technology with agriculture, the initiative creates opportunities for collaboration between farmers, technologists, and service providers to address emerging sectoral challenges. The platform supports government objectives of enhancing local innovation, improving food security, and building resilient agricultural practices. It also ensures that digital inclusion reaches underserved communities, bridging the gap between urban and rural producers. Users can leverage the app to coordinate logistics, access advisory services, and participate in agricultural events, creating an integrated ecosystem that benefits both producers and consumers.
Chifana encouraged other technology providers in the agriculture sector to collaborate with the Mpatlise team, including embedding their websites and services into the platform. This collaborative approach is designed to establish Mpatlise as a one-stop shop for farmers, consolidating information, services, and market access within a single digital hub. By doing so, the platform supports smallholder farmers in increasing productivity, improving market linkages, and fostering business growth. The integration of diverse agricultural services into a single app also enhances transparency, efficiency, and competitiveness within the sector. Farmers gain access to resources that were previously difficult to coordinate, allowing them to respond quickly to market demands and sectoral challenges.
The relaunch of the Mpatlise App represents a significant milestone in Botswana’s push toward a digitally empowered agricultural economy. With its comprehensive services, market access features, and focus on digital inclusion, the platform strengthens the country’s capacity to support small and medium-sized enterprises while promoting innovation. By connecting farmers, buyers, and service providers in a single ecosystem, Mpatlise enhances coordination, data sharing, and productivity across the agriculture value chain. The initiative exemplifies how technology can transform traditional sectors, creating opportunities for growth, resilience, and national development. Mpatlise is poised to become a central tool for Botswana’s agricultural sector, supporting a more inclusive, efficient, and competitive marketplace.
