Officers Urged To Be Vigilant This Festive Season

Police officers have been urged to remain resilient in ensuring that crime is curbed and roads are safe during this festive season.

The call was made by the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Operations, Mr Solomon Mantswe, when addressing South Central Division operatives in Gaborone yesterday (08/11/2022).

Mr Mantswe commended the officers for their efforts, which have significantly reduced cash heists and ATM blasting incidents. He, however, urged them not to rest on their laurels as criminals continually look for other avenues of continuing their criminal activities.

The Deputy Commissioner cautioned them to be on the lookout for home invasions by increasing their visibility and strategising their patrols. He encouraged homeowners to employ theft deterrent measures.

He further urged them to take action on people who party and play loud music in their homes and other entertainment venues beyond stipulated hours. He added that people who do so are not only a nuisance to their neighbours, but such parties can breed an assortment of criminal activities.

On traffic issues, the Deputy Commissioner pointed out that during the festive season, there is usually an influx of overloaded vehicles transiting through the country. He instructed officers to ensure that such vehicles are not allowed on the roads as they are a hazard to their drivers and other road users.

Mr Mantswe also urged them to ensure that truckers maintain a reasonable distance between their trucks to avoid slowing down traffic thereby causing accidents.

Deputy Commissioner Mantswe will hold other operational meetings with officers in other parts of the country over the festive season.
