President Advocate Duma Boko is set to officially launch the ambitious government housing initiative tomorrow in Palapye, marking the beginning of a transformative effort to provide 61,000 constituency housing units across Botswana. This milestone project is part of the government’s commitment to delivering decent, affordable housing and promoting social equity throughout the country.
The launch will kick off the Bonno National Housing Programme’s drive to construct 1,000 housing units in each of Botswana’s 61 constituencies, aiming to complete all units within a two-year timeframe. This large-scale initiative reflects the government’s dedication to addressing the country’s housing deficit and improving living standards for many citizens.
Speaking ahead of the launch, Acting District Commissioner Mr Tsholofelo Molobe revealed that 700 plots have already been secured in Palapye to facilitate the construction of new homes under the Bonno National Housing Programme. “We are well on track to meet our target, with the remaining 300 plots to be distributed across the five villages in Palapye constituency, including Topisi, Radisele, Mogome, Mokgware, and Moreomabele,” Molobe explained.
The allocation of plots across these villages ensures a balanced and inclusive development approach, making housing accessible to a broad cross-section of the Palapye community. This initiative is expected to stimulate local economic growth by creating jobs in construction and related sectors while addressing pressing housing needs.
As President Boko prepares to launch this flagship project, it symbolizes not only a government effort to provide shelter but also a broader commitment to fostering social equity and sustainable community development. The Bonno National Housing Programme’s success could set a new standard for public housing in Botswana, offering hope to thousands of families eager to own decent homes in their constituencies.
