President Advocate Duma Boko has underscored the urgent need to transform education in Botswana, focusing on both the content taught and how it is delivered. Addressing recent education forums, he stressed the importance of equipping schools with modern resources, highlighting technology as a key enabler to expanding learning capabilities.

“We must equip our schools with the latest resources, appreciating that technology is how we extend our capabilities,” President Boko said, emphasizing the role of innovation in education reform.

His remarks came as part of a broader conversation around tackling pressing national challenges, including high unemployment rates. “This calls us to think of innovative ways to build a production-led economy, to strive for social mobility, and to nurture the spirit of entrepreneurship,” he added.

The president’s focus on transforming education aligns with Botswana’s strategic goals to foster a dynamic economy driven by skilled, creative, and enterprising citizens. By modernizing education delivery and curricula, the country aims to better prepare its youth for the demands of the 21st-century workforce.

In related remarks, Minister of Higher Education, Mr Prince Maele, reiterated the government’s renewed commitment to Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET). “We aim to position TVET as a tool for sustainable development and industrial growth which will ultimately contribute to the country’s sustainable economic growth,” he said.

This commitment reflects the government’s recognition of TVET as a critical pathway to equip learners with practical skills that meet industry needs and promote economic diversification.

Together, these leadership messages highlight a clear vision: transforming Botswana’s education system is pivotal to unlocking economic potential, reducing unemployment, and fostering inclusive social progress.

As the country embraces new educational technologies and revitalizes skills training, Botswana is set to build a more resilient and innovative future.
