President Advocate Duma Gideon Boko held a series of high level bilateral engagements on the sidelines of the World Government Summit in Dubai. President Boko met with the Prime Minister of the Republic of Serbia, His Excellency Professor Duro Macut. The talks reaffirmed diplomatic relations between Botswana and Serbia that date back to 1970. Both leaders acknowledged Serbia’s historic solidarity with Africa during key periods of political transition. President Boko emphasized Botswana’s interest in strengthening ties through a more structured cooperation framework. The leaders agreed to identify priority sectors to guide future bilateral engagements.
During the meeting, Prime Minister Macut invited Botswana to participate in one of Europe’s largest international exhibitions in 2027. The exhibition attracts more than 130 countries and major global investors. Serbia offered Botswana 150 square metres of exhibition space. This space would allow Botswana to showcase its business environment and investment potential. The opportunity aligns with Botswana’s drive to attract foreign direct investment.
President Boko also held discussions with the Prime Minister of Antigua and Barbuda, His Excellency Gaston Browne. The meeting focused on Antigua and Barbuda’s Citizenship by Investment Programme. President Boko gained insights into how the programme supports national development and revenue generation. The initiative was highlighted as a possible reference point for Botswana. This exchange supported Botswana’s exploration of innovative economic strategies.
In another engagement, President Boko met with the UAE Minister of State in Foreign Affairs. The minister expressed appreciation for Botswana’s participation in the World Government Summit. He stressed the value of sustained dialogue in strengthening international cooperation. The discussion reinforced growing ties between Botswana and the United Arab Emirates. It also highlighted shared interests in diplomacy and development.
