President Duma Gideon Boko delivered his second State of the Nation Address (SONA) yesterday under the theme “The Steady Path: Delivering on Our Promise, One Step at a Time.” The address, presented before Parliament and broadcast nationwide, outlined the government’s achievements, reaffirmed national priorities, and mapped Botswana’s continued journey toward transformation.
President Boko emphasized that his administration’s vision is rooted in patience, discipline, and tangible results. He stated that lasting development requires steady progress rather than short-term gains. “We are not chasing quick wins; we are laying solid foundations for lasting transformation,” he said.
The President reported measurable progress in revitalising Botswana’s healthcare and education sectors. He noted that investments in new medical facilities, improved access to essential drugs, and enhanced health worker training are beginning to show results. In education, reforms are focused on modernising the curriculum, improving teacher welfare, and increasing digital literacy to prepare young citizens for a changing global economy.
Employment remains a central pillar of the government’s agenda. President Boko highlighted initiatives aimed at stimulating entrepreneurship, attracting private investment, and expanding opportunities in agriculture, manufacturing, and tourism. He said that job creation strategies are now linked directly to skill development programs to ensure that young Batswana are equipped for new industries.
To secure long-term economic resilience, the President reaffirmed Botswana’s goal of energy independence. He pointed to ongoing solar and renewable energy projects designed to reduce reliance on imports and stabilize domestic supply. The government continues to promote public-private partnerships in clean energy production to power homes, industries, and communities sustainably.
Digital innovation remains at the heart of Botswana’s development plan. The President outlined progress in expanding internet infrastructure, digitizing government services, and supporting tech-based startups. He said the aim is to make Botswana a competitive digital economy that supports efficiency, innovation, and inclusion.
President Boko concluded with a call for unity and shared responsibility among citizens. He emphasized that Botswana’s progress depends on collective effort and mutual trust between the government and the people. “Our journey is one of discipline, purpose and unity,” he said. “Progress is not an event; it is a journey and ours continues step by step, grounded in the shared vision of a stronger, fairer and more prosperous nation.”
As Botswana moves forward on The Steady Path, the message from the President was clear: transformation requires patience, collaboration, and consistency. His address reflected a commitment to steady, sustainable progress that seeks to uplift every Motswana and secure the nation’s place as a model of stability and growth in the region.
