The Southern African Development Community (SADC) officially launched its Communication, Awareness and Visibility Strategy 2025-2030 in Gaborone yesterday, following approval by the SADC Council of Ministers in August 2025. The strategy aims to strengthen regional communication and public understanding of SADC’s work.

At the launch, Ms. Simone Goertz, Head of Economic and Development Cooperation at the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany in Botswana, emphasized that the successful implementation of the Strategy will require sustained dedication, collaboration, and coordination among all stakeholders. She noted that these efforts are essential for achieving meaningful regional integration.

The launch highlighted the roles and responsibilities of Member States, National Contact Points, National Media Coordinators, and other relevant stakeholders. The Strategy provides a structured framework to enhance communication capacity, improve media engagement, and deepen public knowledge of SADC’s mandate, programmes, and regional impact.

Senior officials from the SADC Secretariat, representatives from the German Embassy in Botswana, delegates from SADC Member States, and media practitioners attended the event. The launch underscored the importance of clear, coordinated communication to strengthen SADC’s visibility and foster greater awareness of its regional development initiatives.
