The Botswana Patriotic Front (BPF) Publicity Secretary- Lawrence Ookeditse has accused the Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) of lack of patriotism. He said this in light of some BDP activists’ response to SKI Khama Foundation’s vaccine securing issue.
Some BDP activists, particularly Kagelelo Banks Kentse, the Chairperson for BDP Communications Subcommittee gunned down the Press Release by the Foundation, and immediately labeled it as a scam.
On his first post, Kentse labeled SKI Khama Foundation’s Press Release as a stunt. After a few moments he talked wrote again on Facebook indicating how the government needs to prove that the Foundation’s efforts are instead a scam.“We should make a formal enquiry through the US embassy and related parties. This will unearth the truth. Especially because American companies have to follow certain standards and bilateral agreements. We just need to expose the scam that he is trying to pull on Batswana.” Kentse disapproved.
In response to Facebook posts by Kentse and other BDP activists, Ookeditse came to the show gunblazing;
“If you have been wondering how it is that things are getting so bad in our country now you know. To them, it’s BDP first. Nation second. Even if the price is the precious lives of our people. For them, it’s that cava cartel first.
This is exactly what they do when they see you succeed. This is why so many of our people fail. You do not get assisted from the perspective of finding a way to make things work, you get ‘assisted’ with a view to finding reasons for what you propose not to work. I wouldn’t be surprised if it turns out this is actually legit, and they knew it’s legit but tried to dismiss it as is their modus operandi. They make sure they cut you down to size lest you become too big. This is how they break citizens who try.
How can whole ruling party machinery wish for a possible vaccine find to be a scam at a time when we are desperate for vaccines? They should be doing verifications and hoping this find is gold and not holding phony celebrations. Now you have even more reason to vote the cartel out of power.”
The issue on SKI Khama Foundation securing COVID-19 vaccines for the country has became another platform for political insults exchange. The owner of the SKI Khama Foundation is the former President His Excellency Lt Gen. Dr. Seretse Khama Ian Khama who has been in cold war with his successor, His Excellency the President Dr. Mokgweetsi Eric Keabetswe Masisi. Their war has pulled in their followers also.
Meanwhile, according to the latest statistics released by the COVID-19 Presidential Task Force, more than Four thousand people tested positive for COVID-19 in three (3) days, while more than hundred people lost their lives.
