The Tiriac Foundation is making a major investment in Botswana’s sporting landscape, signaling a new era for local athletes. Plans include the development of a state-of-the-art Judo Centre at Marulamantsi Primary School and a 3,000-seater Tennis Arena at the Botswana Tennis Center. In addition, the foundation will sponsor prize money for the Men’s and Women’s ITF $15,000 tournaments scheduled for May 2026. These initiatives aim to enhance infrastructure, provide competitive opportunities, and position Botswana as a rising hub for international judo and tennis events.
During his visit, Dorcescu Teodor met with officials from the Ministry of Sport & Arts and the Botswana National Sport Commission to advance the partnership. Discussions focused on project implementation, athlete development programs, and collaborative opportunities to maximize community engagement. The meetings highlighted the importance of strategic investments in youth-focused facilities and the potential for international recognition through high-level tournaments. These efforts demonstrate the foundation’s commitment to both grassroots and elite-level sports development.
The collaboration was inspired in part by President Advocate Duma Boko receiving an Honorary Black Belt from the International Judo Federation, marking a historic moment for Botswana’s sporting history. This recognition helped catalyze the partnership, linking local enthusiasm for judo with international expertise and support. The planned Judo Centre will offer training programs, tournaments, and community outreach initiatives to cultivate talent from a young age. The Tennis Arena, meanwhile, is expected to host regional and international competitions, attracting players and spectators to Botswana.
This investment also includes structured support for athlete development, coaching education, and tournament organization. Prize sponsorship for the ITF $15,000 events provides financial incentives that encourage higher levels of competition and attract international participants. By combining infrastructure development with competitive opportunities, the Tiriac Foundation aims to strengthen Botswana’s presence on the global sporting stage while providing pathways for local athletes to excel.
Through these projects, Botswana is set to become a regional leader in judo and tennis, with modern facilities and enhanced competitive structures. The partnership reflects a shared vision between the Tiriac Foundation, government agencies, and sports authorities to invest in sustainable programs that promote health, performance, and national pride. This milestone investment signals a commitment to long-term growth, international collaboration, and elevating Botswana as a destination for world-class sporting events.
