“Where is Former President Khama?” Parliament asks

The Former President of Botswana His Excellency Lt. Gen Seretse Khama Ian Khama has been out of the country for over a week now without the knowledge of the government. Legislators has yesterday expressed concern over his sketchy whereabouts.

Answering the question by the Member of Parliament for Kgalagadi South, Sam Brooks, Minister of Presidential Affairs and Public Administration, Kabo Morwaeng responded, “The Former President Lt. General Seretse Khama Ian Khama has not notified my Ministry of his plans to travel; as such, I have no official knowledge of his whereabouts. However, upon inquiry, information from the Department of Immigration and Citizenship shows that the Former President Lt. General Seretse Khama Ian Khama crossed the border at Martins Drift into South Africa on the 8th November 2021, unaccompanied by the official security detail.”

Brooks had asked the Minister for Presidential Affairs, Governance and Public Administration to explain to Parliament the whereabouts of the former President Lt. General Ian Khama Seretse Khama, in view of the contradicting allegations that he might be outside the country without the knowledge of Government.

While still out of the country, the former President was reported unpleased with the the Directorate of Intelligence and Security Services (DISS). The former President indicated that his house has been searched by the intelligence in his absence, and without a warrant. Former President Khama further accused the spy agency of planting things at his house in order to frame him. β€œI have been informed from a source they have been planting things there to implicate me , that’s why they went at night” said Khama.

In response, Morwaeng denied, “In that regard, I have explained that there is nothing that can be done at anyone’s house without the law being followed. As this government, we are the addicts of the rule of law always. We will always follow what the law requires.

However, the DIS has in the past being accused of fabricating evidence, and forging a warrants.
