2022 Final Year Examinations Message by Minister of Education and Skills Development

The season for the 2022 Final Year Examinations for Primary School Leaving Examinations (PSLE), Junior Certificate Examinations (JCE) and Botswana General Certificate of Secondary Education (BGCSE) is upon us again.

This year we have registered 49,494 candidates for Primary School Leaving Examinations (PSLE); 47,363 for Junior Certificate in Education (JCE) and 35,413 for Botswana General Certificate in Secondary Education (BGCSE). These numbers include candidates from both government and private schools as well as Botswana Open University candidates and private candidates.

We trust that our Learners will write the 2022 examinations under more conducive conditions following the lifting of some COVID-19 protocols. We must remember, however, that COVID-19 remains a threat to our health and so I call upon school leadership, learners and Botswana Examinations Council (BEC) to ensure that we maintain social distancing in schools and everyone takes their vaccinations and boosters as recommended.

Examinations for subjects with practical papers at secondary school level have already started. Most written papers will be starting shortly with PSLE starting on Wednesday the 5/10/2022, JCE on the 17/10/2022 and BGCSE has started on the 03/10/2022.

As we aspire to become an upper middle income country driven by a knowledge based economy it is the youth, our children, who we need to invest in. I appeal to all stakeholders including parents to support learners during this critical time. Parents are encouraged to ensure that their children have time to study and also rest. Learners are encouraged to ensure that they are fully prepared to excel in examinations and that they should plan their studies, eat and sleep well. On behalf of the Ministry of Education and Skills Development, and indeed on my own behalf, I take this opportunity to wish all learners who are sitting for the 2022 examinations good luck and the best results. I am confident that you will make the nation, Ministry and your parents very proud.

I also wish to take this time to thank our hard working teachers and educators who have prepared these learners for examinations. As the pillar of the nation you continue to support learners in their education through thick and thin including their examinations. I salute you and look forward to even better results as we strive to deliver the 21st Century Learner.

Good luck and best wishes to the class of 2022.
