The Ministerial session of the 27th Ordinary Meeting of the Southern African Development Community (SADC) Ministerial Committee of the Organ (MCO) on Politics, Defence and Security commenced today, drawing key regional leaders to deliberate on pressing political and security issues affecting the SADC region.
Botswana is officially represented at the high-level meeting by Hon. Dr. Phenyo Butale, Minister of International Relations and Cooperation, alongside Hon. Moeti Caesar Mohwasa, Minister for State President. Their presence underscores Botswana’s ongoing commitment to regional stability, peacebuilding, and collaborative security efforts within Southern Africa.
The SADC MCO serves as the principal organ responsible for overseeing and guiding matters related to politics, defence, and security in the region. At this session, ministers will engage in comprehensive discussions on recent developments impacting member states, including conflict resolution, peacekeeping initiatives, and strategies to address emerging security threats.
Among the agenda items are evaluations of political transitions, cross-border security challenges, and collaborative efforts to strengthen democratic governance and human rights protections throughout the SADC bloc.
