The annual Voorslaag Boteti Mining and Agriculture Expo is currently underway in Letlhakane, drawing attention from farmers, miners, and entrepreneurs across Botswana. The event, which kicked off on Tuesday, marks a major milestone as it celebrates its 10th anniversary under the theme: “Harvesting Earth’s Wealth by Cultivating Growth and Extracting Value.”

This year’s expo has seen a record turnout, with 125 stalls showcasing a wide range of products and services linked to the agriculture and mining sectors. From innovative farming equipment to mining technologies and agribusiness solutions, the event provides a platform for knowledge sharing, networking, and business development.

Voorslaag has grown over the past decade into one of Botswana’s key platforms promoting rural economic development and sector collaboration. It brings together stakeholders from government, private companies, smallholder farmers, livestock producers, and community members.

One of the main highlights of this year’s expo will be the small stock and poultry auction scheduled for tomorrow. The auction presents a valuable opportunity for farmers to market their livestock while giving buyers access to quality breeding stock and poultry from across the Boteti region.

The 10-year milestone has also prompted reflections on the progress made since the expo’s inception. Organizers say Voorslaag has contributed significantly to local job creation, skills development, and market access for small-scale producers and emerging businesses.

“This year’s theme speaks to what the expo has always stood for—maximizing the value of our natural resources, both below and above the ground,” said one of the event coordinators. “We aim to create a space where both mining and agriculture can drive sustainable economic growth for the people of Boteti.”

Participants are engaging in panel discussions, product demonstrations, and workshops designed to empower local businesses and equip them with tools for growth in the evolving economic landscape of Botswana.

As the expo draws to a close with the much-anticipated auction, Letlhakane continues to position itself as a key hub where agriculture and mining come together to shape the future of the Boteti District.
