ABSA Bank Botswana is taking active steps to empower women entrepreneurs by equipping them with essential legal and business skills necessary to protect and grow their enterprises. During a recent workshop, the bank’s Senior Legal Advisor, Mr. Keletso Tebele, emphasized the importance for women in business to understand key laws such as the Data Protection Act and the Employment and Labour Relations Act.
Addressing participants, Mr. Tebele highlighted several critical legal requirements that small businesses must adhere to. He stressed the need for clear terms and conditions related to sales and orders to avoid disputes and protect both parties involved. Additionally, he underscored the importance of employment contracts for staff, ensuring that businesses comply with labour laws and foster fair working environments. Intellectual property protection was also a major focus, especially for entrepreneurs in the service sector who rely heavily on their unique ideas and branding to maintain a competitive edge.
The workshop aimed not only to provide legal insights but also to build financial literacy and strengthen business and leadership capabilities among women entrepreneurs. This holistic approach reflects ABSA Bank Botswana’s commitment to supporting the growth and sustainability of small businesses led by women.
Ms. Bakang Dinku, the bank’s Business Development Manager, expressed optimism about the workshop’s impact. “At the end of this workshop, we hope to have increased confidence and motivation from participants with gained practical skills and knowledge, as we believe the new tools and strategies can help their businesses and careers,” she said.
