In the tranquil village of Makopong, under a quiet winter sky, Botswana gathered in solemn unity to bid farewell to one of its most cherished sons—Dr. Micus Chiwasanee Chimbombi. The heartfelt send-off drew loved ones, dignitaries, and hundreds of mourners from across the nation, all assembled to celebrate the life of a man who embodied service, humility, and a relentless commitment to the betterment of his country.
Among those present was President Advocate Duma Gideon Boko, who delivered a stirring tribute that captured the depth of national loss. He described Dr. Chimbombi as “a rare species, a special breed, a man of deep intellect, quiet strength, and uncommon integrity.” The President spoke of his clarity of thought, bold vision, and gentle leadership, highlighting his exceptional ability to lead with compassion and inspire hope.
In a moment that touched many hearts, President Boko extended heartfelt appreciation to Mrs. Segomotso Chimbombi, thanking her for sharing her husband with the nation. “Dr. Chimbombi was a bearer of hope,” he said, “not only for today, but for generations to come.”
Dr. Chimbombi’s distinguished career began in 1986, following his graduation in Veterinary Medicine from Nairobi. Over the next three decades, he dedicated himself to the service of Botswana, rising to the esteemed role of Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Agriculture. Even after retiring in 2015, his devotion to public service endured. In 2024, he was elected Member of Parliament for Kgalagadi South under the Umbrella for Democratic Change (UDC), bringing wisdom, dignity, and heartfelt commitment back into public office.
Throughout his life, Dr. Chimbombi remained grounded in his roots. He was not only a revered public servant but also a loving husband, father, grandfather, and brother. He is survived by his wife, daughter, son-in-law, grandchildren, and eight siblings.
As the nation laid him to rest in the soil that nurtured his early dreams, it did so with deep gratitude. Dr. Chimbombi’s legacy lives not just in the policies he helped shape or the offices he held, but in the countless lives he touched through kindness, courage, and humility.
Botswana has lost a true son of the soil—but his light continues to shine in the values he upheld and the future he helped build.
