President Advocate Duma Gideon Boko will take part in the 2025 Africa Water Investment Summit, set for August 13 to 15 in South Africa. The event is hosted by the Government of South Africa in partnership with the African Union Commission and the Continental Africa Water Investment Programme. It will gather African Heads of State, ministers, investors, and global leaders from the private sector and development institutions.
The Summit, themed “Solidarity, Equality and Sustainability,” will address Africa’s pressing water security and infrastructure challenges. Key discussions will focus on investment priorities, improved sanitation systems, cross-border water governance, and strategies to build climate resilience. The gathering is expected to end with the adoption of a Declaration on water investments.
President Boko will attend as Chairperson of the Global Water Changemakers Awards. This initiative recognises outstanding leadership in climate-resilient water investments. During the Summit, he will present the 2025 Presidential Global Water Changemakers Awards to six Heads of State and Government for their work in advancing sustainable water management across the continent.
He will be accompanied by Honourable Onneetse Ramogapi, Minister of Water and Human Settlement, along with senior government officials. In his absence, Vice President Ndaba Nkosinathi Gaolatlhe will serve as Acting President of Botswana.
President Boko’s attendance reflects Botswana’s commitment to collaborative action on water security and climate resilience. It reinforces the country’s leadership role in shaping Africa’s sustainable development agenda and in promoting equitable access to water resources across the region.
