The Botswana Tech Summit 2025, held under the theme “Technology. People. Development,” brought together leading innovators, entrepreneurs, and policymakers to map the nation’s digital future. The event underscored the urgency of embracing technology to drive economic growth and sustainable development.

Vice President Ndaba Nkosinathi Gaolathe, officiating at the summit, warned that Botswana’s long-standing reliance on diamonds is no longer sustainable. He cited a slowdown in global diamond sales as a clear signal for the country to diversify its economy. He emphasized that Botswana’s future prosperity will be built online, driven by the ambitions of young people, coders, creators, and innovators.

To support this shift, Gaolathe announced that the government is rolling out high-speed internet infrastructure to reach over 80% of the population. He urged Batswana to use this connectivity to create value, expand e-commerce ventures, and market traditional crafts and agricultural products across Southern Africa.

The summit provided a platform for collaboration and knowledge exchange, with participants exploring practical strategies to accelerate digital transformation. Discussions focused on fostering innovation ecosystems, improving digital literacy, and supporting start-ups that can compete regionally and globally.

By the end of the event, it was clear that Botswana is positioning itself to move beyond its traditional industries, with technology at the center of its development agenda. The country’s leaders, innovators, and entrepreneurs are aligned in their vision to build a more resilient and diversified economy powered by digital solutions.
