Journalists from Lesotho and Botswana were encouraged to raise the bar in storytelling and newsroom practices during the ongoing Media Parity Capacity Building workshop in Gaborone on Wednesday. The workshop focused on gender-sensitive interviewing, challenging participants to rethink their approach to journalism and commit to more equitable, impactful reporting.
The session sparked a collective drive to improve standards across newsrooms, ensuring that all voices are represented with integrity and respect. Participants were urged to adopt practices that promote fairness, accuracy, and inclusivity in their reporting.
Mrs. Tryphina Dongwana-Kenalemang, Co-Founder and Managing Director of the Weekend Post Newspaper in Botswana, advised journalists to use every opportunity to enhance their work. She highlighted the importance of setting measurable goals, managing time effectively, and investing in education and professional growth.
She emphasised that reporters should value themselves, stay innovative, energetic, and passionate about their work. Mrs. Dongwana-Kenalemang added that building strong support systems, maintaining discipline, and prioritising tasks are key to succeeding in the industry.
The workshop serves as a platform for journalists to refine skills, adopt best practices, and foster a culture of excellence that benefits both newsrooms and the communities they serve.
