The Commissioner of Police, Dinah Marathe, hosted a delegation from the Botswana Building Society (BBS) at Police Headquarters on Thursday afternoon, 21 August 2025. The meeting was held as a meet and greet session aimed at strengthening ties between the Botswana Police Service (BPS) and BBS.

BBS Managing Director, Pedzani Tafa, used the session to update the Commissioner and her team on the institution’s progress since its commercialisation in 2022. She outlined the transformative journey the bank has undertaken over the past three years, pointing to milestones already achieved in its growth trajectory. Ms Tafa highlighted the organisation’s commitment to innovation, customer-focused services, and sustainable financial solutions as key drivers of BBS’ current expansion.

She also expressed confidence in the institution’s future, noting that the transition from a building society to a fully-fledged commercial bank has positioned BBS to play a significant role in Botswana’s financial sector. Her remarks reinforced the bank’s goal of contributing to the country’s economic development through accessible financial products and partnerships with stakeholders across industries.

Commissioner Marathe welcomed the delegation and expressed appreciation for the visit. She acknowledged the value of collaboration between public institutions like the police service and private sector players such as BBS. According to the Commissioner, strong partnerships remain crucial for national development, as they foster trust, cooperation, and shared responsibility. She further stressed that the BPS continues to work with a variety of stakeholders to strengthen community relations and deliver on its mandate of safety and security.

The meeting concluded with both parties expressing optimism about future engagements. The Commissioner reaffirmed BPS’ openness to partnerships that support service delivery and nation-building, while the BBS team committed to continued growth and community support as part of its business strategy.

This engagement underscores the growing importance of cross-sector collaboration in Botswana, as institutions look to pool resources and expertise to drive development.
