The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), Mr Kgosietsile Ngakaagae, paid a courtesy call on the Commissioner of Police, Dinah Marathe, at Police Headquarters on 14 October 2025. The meeting marked a key step toward strengthening cooperation between the Botswana Police Service (BPS) and the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
The engagement focused on deepening collaboration between the two institutions that form the backbone of Botswana’s Criminal Justice System. Both leaders discussed critical issues that affect the speed, fairness, and efficiency of criminal prosecutions.
Key discussion points included the timely handling of criminal cases, improving the quality of case files submitted for prosecution, and enhancing the role of prosecutors in guiding police investigations. They also examined strategies to improve conviction rates and build stronger public confidence in the justice process.
Mr Ngakaagae emphasised that effective prosecution depends on coordinated action between investigators and prosecutors. He noted that well-prepared and lawful investigations form the foundation of successful court outcomes. He described the meeting as a valuable opportunity to align priorities and share insights on strengthening inter-agency cooperation.
“This courtesy visit provided a valuable opportunity to exchange ideas on how our offices can work more closely together to ensure justice is delivered efficiently and fairly,” he said.
Commissioner Marathe welcomed the DPP’s visit, commending the strong partnership between the Police and the DPP’s Office. She recognised the vital role of prosecutors in shaping investigations and ensuring that evidence collected supports successful court proceedings.
“This engagement reinforces our shared commitment to upholding the rule of law and ensuring justice for all citizens,” Commissioner Marathe said. She stressed the importance of maintaining collaboration to build a more responsive and effective justice system.
The meeting concluded with both offices reaffirming their joint commitment to strengthening coordination, promoting accountability, and ensuring justice for all. The renewed partnership aims to enhance the overall performance of Botswana’s Criminal Justice System, ensuring that cases are handled with speed, precision, and integrity.
