While December 24 sees several major events across Botswana, the annual Gaabo Motho Music Festival in Moshupa has established itself as the ultimate cultural homecoming. Unlike other shows, Gaabo Motho blends music, tradition, and community, offering attendees a curated experience that celebrates heritage, identity, and unity. The festival goes beyond a concert, providing a sense of returning home for the festive season.

Oscar Dlamini Thebe, Managing Director of Dladleng Entertainment and founder of Gaabo Motho, described the festival as more than just music. “Gaabo Motho is more than a concert; it is a cultural homecoming experience,” he said, emphasizing its focus on reconnecting people with their roots.

Despite competing events such as Home Coming Mahalapye occurring on the same day, organisers maintain that Gaabo Motho’s consistency, cultural focus, and curated experience make it a must-attend event. Over the years, the festival has grown steadily and gained recognition from the Botswana Tourism Organisation as a key annual event, highlighting its contribution to cultural tourism and local economic development.

The festival’s commitment to excellence is evident in its back-to-back Glitz Awards for Best Styled Event, reflecting meticulous attention to production, aesthetics, and audience experience. Safety is also a core priority, with partnerships established with Security Systems to ensure a secure environment for all attendees.

Every artist and act at Gaabo Motho is carefully selected to align with the festival’s cultural narrative. The 2025 edition promises performances from Msaki, Nkosazana Daughter, Shandesh, Zee Nxumalo, Professor, Jazzwrld & Thukuthela, Vee Mampeezy, Sannere, Ubuntu Band, and top local DJs, creating an authentic and immersive experience.

Held annually on December 24 in Moshupa, Gaabo Motho transforms Christmas Eve into more than just a night of music. The festival combines performances, dance, traditional expression, and community engagement, offering attendees the opportunity to celebrate collective identity and heritage.

“It is not just an event you attend, but a home you return to,” Thebe said, capturing the essence of Gaabo Motho as Botswana’s ultimate cultural homecoming.
