Honourable Minister of Minerals and Energy, Bogolo Joy Kenewendo, today welcomed the first delegation to experience the House of Botswana Diamond and Delta Tours, known as The Diamond Talk, in Gaborone. The visit marked a key milestone in Botswana’s efforts to position its diamonds through origin, value, and ethical production. The engagement placed Botswana’s diamond story at the center of global conversations on responsible sourcing and beneficiation.
The Ministry of Minerals and Energy hosted delegates from The Diamond Talk, led by Ms Renu Choudhary, a fourth generation gem and jewellery enthusiast and a Diamond Graduate from the Gemological Institute of America. The delegation met with the Minister to discuss Botswana’s diamond journey, from mining to marketing. Discussions focused on how Botswana has built a diamond industry anchored in transparency, national development, and long term value creation.
House of Botswana serves as the overarching brand that promotes the provenance and enduring value of diamonds from Botswana. The initiative reinforces the country’s leadership in responsible diamond sourcing, local beneficiation, and ethical production. It also highlights how diamonds have contributed to national development through education, healthcare, and infrastructure, setting Botswana apart as a global benchmark in natural diamond governance.
The House of Botswana Diamond and Delta Tours programme is a flagship experiential initiative. It is designed to showcase Botswana’s globally recognised natural diamond value chain alongside the country’s rich environmental heritage. Through curated experiences, delegates gain firsthand insight into how diamond mining links with beneficiation, marketing, and sustainable development.
Implemented in partnership with the diamond industry and government stakeholders, the initiative offers an immersive journey that connects diamonds with conservation, tourism, and community development. It demonstrates how Botswana balances economic growth with environmental protection and social impact. The programme also strengthens Botswana’s position as a destination where natural diamonds and natural beauty coexist.
By hosting The Diamond Talk delegation, Botswana continues to open its doors to global influencers in the gem and jewellery sector. The engagement strengthens international understanding of Botswana’s diamond story and reinforces the country’s commitment to ethical practices, socio economic impact, and long term value across the diamond value chain.
