“A Diamond is Born,” an upcoming short documentary highlighting the rarity, craftsmanship, and value of natural diamonds, premiered on 17 September 2025 at the Frick Collection Museum in New York City. The premiere drew leaders from the global diamond industry, emphasizing the significance of Botswana’s role in the natural diamond market.
The documentary explores the unique process of creating natural diamonds and their impact on local communities in Botswana. It highlights how the diamond industry supports livelihoods, providing employment and contributing to national development.
Honourable Minister of Minerals and Energy, Bogolo Joy Kenewendo, attended the premiere and delivered a keynote speech, placing Botswana at the center of the natural diamond conversation. She emphasized that Botswana’s diamonds are sourced responsibly, with full respect for human rights.
“And as we look ahead, Botswana’s vision is clear: to continue building an industry that is as resilient as it is responsible, as innovative as it is inclusive. We will invest in technologies that deepen transparency, in branding that amplifies the uniqueness of natural diamonds, and in partnerships that ensure sustainability remains at the heart of everything we do,” said Minister Kenewendo.
The documentary was created by Jared Jewelers in collaboration with Oscar-winning filmmaker Luc Jacquet. Its release coincides with the launch of Storied Diamond Desert Sands of Eternity™, a campaign by Jared Jewelers featuring an exquisite collection of Botswana diamonds. Each piece in the collection includes a QR code, allowing consumers to track its journey from Botswana’s mines to a jewellery box in New York City using blockchain technology.
“A Diamond is Born” not only celebrates the artistry and value of natural diamonds but also underscores Botswana’s leadership in ethical diamond production. The film and the Storied Diamond campaign aim to strengthen consumer confidence, promote transparency, and showcase the global significance of Botswana’s diamond industry.
The premiere in New York positions Botswana as a key player in shaping the future of natural diamonds, highlighting innovation, sustainability, and responsible sourcing as pillars of the industry.
