Annual Okavango Music Fest Scheduled For Christmas Eve

The annual Okavango Music Fest is back on and this year it will be on Christmas Day. The third annual get-together charitable festival will be held at Shakawe Community grounds.

The festival that is centred on artists from the Okavango area, this time around managed to include an artist from the south in the name of Tumza and the Big Bullets. The show organiser Kebadile Wasenda, also known as Kaybee in music circles, told the media that  this time the festival has grown and managed to attract sponsorship from Mascom, Dropping Keys, Amicable Stewards Tutorials, Wapanawa Photography, L.V.P, Highlight Caterers and Visual Presence.

She said they have been in need of a proper stage and sound for the past two years and the sponsors have stepped up to ensure a memorable festival for the revelers in Okavango. Kaybee said the lineup include local artists amongst others Chris Manto 7 of Zwaka Presa fame and a Namibian artist called Ayce Flame. “Unlike last year, where we brought three artists from Namibia, this year we want more locals to dominate the lineup,” she highlighted.

Kaybee was quick to indicate that the charitable festival’s main objective is to give back to the community. “Social workers identifies the beneficiary and after the festival part of the funds is geared towards improving the family’s welfare,” she said. She said another aim of the festival is to create a platform for marginalised artists who are deep in the delta and can’t show their talents. She said this year they brought in the cultural heritage fashion show to differentiate tribes attire in the Okavango area. She said any cultural attire from Mbukushu to Herero is welcome.

Kaybee said even though Okavango is well known for tourism, their festival has not yet tapped into the tourism market. The other artists on the lineup include Lopza and Wetu, DJ Core, DJ Benene BW, KayBee, DJ Cooper, RayD, Bendrox, Yannic Disho and Chapison. Normal tickets are sold at P50 while VIP costs P200. VIP ticket includes a boat cruise to one of the Islands in the Okavango
