Appointment Of Chairperson Of The Independent Electoral Commission (IEC)
1. Members of the Public are hereby informed that the Constitution of the Republic of Botswana empowers the Judicial Service Commission to appoint a Chairman of the Independent Electoral Commission who shall be a Judge of the High Court.
2. The Judicial Service Commission has therefore, in exercise of the powers vested in it by Section 65A(1) of the Constitution, appointed Hon. Judge Barnabas Nyamadzabo as Chairman of the Independent Electoral Commission.
3. Hon. Judge Barnabas Nyamadzabo replaces Hon. Judge President Abednego Batshani Tafa who has served as Chairperson of the Independent Electoral Commission from 2014 to 31st August 2022 which date marks Hon. Judge President Tafaβs retirement from Judgeship.
4. Hon. Judge Nyamadzaboβs tenure as Chairman commences on 1st September 2022.
