Botswana’s Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry Warns public about fake Facebook account

Botswana’s Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry Warns public about fake Facebook account in a statement that read;

It has come to the attention of the Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry that a fake Facebook account using the Ministry name was developed on 26th November 2019 with a dot (.) at the end and is operating, soliciting personal details from unsuspecting members of the Public.

Of particular concern to the Ministry is the recent post about a Kick-Start Enterprise Development Fund that was launched where the public could apply for a grant with a picture of Honourable Minister Peggy O. Serame.

The Ministry wishes to inform members of the Public that the Facebook account is fake and that the Ministry has not launched any grant for enterprises. The Ministry as well as the Minister is not involved in any communication sent from the mentioned email account or in the exchange of information and financial transactions that may occur in the name of the Honourable Minister.

Members of the public are further advised against exposing their personal information to fraudsters whose intention is to commit cyber related crimes.

If in doubt about the authenticity of an email or document allegedly sent by the Honorable Minister or on behalf of the Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry, please contact the Public Relations Unit at 3601200 or email [email protected].
