The 51st edition of the Ghanzi Agricultural Show is underway, drawing multitudes of exhibitors and visitors from across Botswana and beyond. Officially opened on Monday and running until Saturday, the event has once again positioned Ghanzi as a vital hub for agricultural innovation, trade, and community development.

Among the standout participants this year are 37 livestock farmers showcasing top-tier breeds and farming practices, underscoring the region’s strength in animal husbandry. The show also features an extensive range of exhibitions including local produce displays, agribusiness innovations, family entertainment, and educational workshops.

According to the chairperson of the Ghanzi Show Trust, Mr. Mpho Molomo, the event offers a powerful platform for stakeholders in the agricultural value chain. “The show is not just a celebration of farming; it is a launchpad for new products, ideas, and partnerships,” Molomo said. “It is about raising awareness of agriculture’s central role in national development.”

This year’s theme, Sowing Seeds of Innovation for Agricultural Transformation, highlights the importance of modernising the sector to ensure sustainability and competitiveness. From smart farming technologies to climate-resilient crops, innovation is at the heart of every exhibition.

Adding a cultural and developmental dimension to the occasion, Kgosi Annah Rankho of Ghanzi urged women and youth to seize opportunities in agriculture. “Agriculture is the backbone of our economy,” she said. “If more young people and women take part, we can truly transform livelihoods and communities.”

The Ghanzi Agricultural Show has long served as a key event on Botswana’s calendar, promoting agricultural excellence while nurturing a spirit of entrepreneurship. With this year’s turnout and diverse offerings, it continues to be a beacon for agricultural advancement in the region.
