First Lady Kaone Boko is hosting her counterpart from Burundi, Ms Angeline Ndayishime, for a two-day working visit focused on exploring collaboration opportunities through the Organisation of African First Ladies for Development, OAFLAD.
The visit provides a platform for both leaders to discuss joint initiatives that promote social development, health, and gender equality across Africa. Through OAFLAD, First Ladies work collectively to influence policy and support programs that address critical issues affecting women, children, and vulnerable communities.
OAFLAD is a non-profit organisation established in 2022 by African First Ladies. Its mission is to leverage the influence of First Ladies to champion sustainable development initiatives, strengthen community health systems, and advocate for gender-responsive policies. The organisation focuses on capacity building, awareness campaigns, and resource mobilisation to drive positive social change across the continent.
During the visit, First Lady Boko and Ms Ndayishime are expected to discuss strategies for joint projects, share experiences from their respective countries, and identify areas for partnership. Key themes include maternal and child health, education, women’s empowerment, and community development.
The collaboration underscores Botswana’s commitment to regional cooperation and continental development. By hosting the Burundi First Lady, Botswana strengthens diplomatic ties while advancing OAFLAD’s mission of inclusive and impactful social interventions.
The two-day engagement is also an opportunity for knowledge exchange, best practice sharing, and networking among First Ladies, reinforcing their role as agents of change and advocates for sustainable development in Africa.
