Primary school heads in Gaborone are calling on the public to help tackle increasing cases of drug use among learners. Lesedi Primary School Head, Kuda Letsholo, reported that the school has faced incidents involving drugs, a challenge he attributes to its proximity to bars and liquor outlets.

Letsholo emphasizes the need for close collaboration between parents, schools, and police to address what he describes as a growing problem among school-going children. He warns that without joint efforts, the issue could escalate, affecting student performance, discipline, and overall school safety.

At Thebe Primary School, Head Caroline Tsopane highlighted a different approach. She credits strong support from parents and former pupils with helping the school overcome most student-related challenges. This involvement has reinforced discipline and promoted positive behaviour among learners, proving the value of community engagement in school management.

School leaders stress that addressing drug use requires a collective effort. Parents, educators, and local authorities must work together to create safe learning environments, provide guidance, and monitor student activities. By strengthening partnerships, schools in Gaborone aim to protect learners from harmful influences and ensure their academic and social development.
