Gaborone United Under 17 To Participate In A Swedish Tournament

Gaborone United Secretary General City Senne has announced that their U17 boys’ team will participate in Gothia World Youth Cup in Sweden in July.

Senne shared the newsΒ  at a media briefing last week, where the club’s management officially introduced their newly appointed interim chairman, Boitumelo Breakdown Nsunge.

The U17s have already started preparing for the tournament and Senne believes the international exposure will give GU’s feeder team invaluable experience for the future.

During the briefing, Senne touched upon the Money Machine’s financial woes.

There have been reports of players boycotting training because of three months unpaid salaries. Coach Rodolf Zapata also threatened to quit amid rumours his employers owe him around P200, 000.

β€œWe are focusing on re-building the team and forgetting football politics. At the moment we are sailing on muddy waters and we believe former players like Nsunge can help to direct our ship. This issue of commercializing football has brought more damage than good and it has brought a lot of confusion.

β€œNsunge is not new to the club as he used to play for GU as a defender and also worked with the technical team after retirement,” said Senne, adding that players were paid part of their outstanding wages from the club’s Mascom Top 8 semi-final prize money.

For his part, Nsunge promised the public that they would be seeing a different GU from now on.
