GUIDELINES FOR BOTSWANA COVID-19 PANDEMIC (CORONA VIRUS) DONATIONS IN KIND

On the 26th of March 2020 a Press Release was issued, calling for members of the public, Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs), companies as well as institutions, to make contributions towards efforts to respond to the economic and social impact of the COVID-19 pandemic for the control prevention and treatment of the disease and it’s after effects.

The response from members of the public has been phenomenal, as outpouring support in the form of money and donations in kind is being received.

Financial contributions are received into the Relief Fund through various designated Bank Accounts and Mobile Money Operators (Orange Money, MyZaka and Smega), whilst donations in kind are received at the Central Supplies Depot in Gaborone, and at various District Commissioners offices as listed in the Press Release.

Attached are guidelines are focusing on the management and distribution of donations received in kind; to ensure transparency, accountability and equitable distribution of the donated goods and services to targeted beneficiaries.

The targeted beneficiaries are as follows:

i) Frontline health officers/workers
ii) Frontline disciplined forces; Botswana Defense Force (BDF) and Botswana Police Services (BPS)
iii) Quarantined members of the public
iv) Health institutions across the country
v) Officials at Ports of Entry
vi) Vulnerable members of the public;
β€’ Destitutes
β€’ Home based care patients
β€’ People living with disabilities, and
β€’ Any Motswana (as assessed by relevant authorities)
