The Assistant Minister of Child Welfare and Basic Education, Honourable Justin Chipo Hunyepa, has called on parents, teachers, government, and private schools to work together in strengthening Botswana’s education system. He made these remarks at the Gaborone International School awards ceremony, held under the theme: Nurturing Character, Inspiring Excellence. The Assistant Minister praised the school for fostering both academic achievement and strong character among its learners.
Honourable Hunyepa encouraged schools to adopt the STEAM model, integrating science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics into the curriculum. He also highlighted the importance of modern learning tools such as robotics and digital platforms, noting that these innovations are essential for preparing learners to compete globally.
He stressed the need for discipline, compassion, and patriotism within schools. Honourable Hunyepa urged institutions to address issues such as bullying and substance abuse to create safer learning environments. He also appealed to private schools to support inclusive education by providing scholarships to talented learners from disadvantaged backgrounds, ensuring equal opportunities for all.
The Assistant Minister commended teachers for their dedication and professionalism. He reminded parents to remain actively involved in their children’s education, highlighting the critical role of family support in academic success.
