Inaugural Botswana Local Government Transformation Symposium In Maun

The Minister of Local Government and Rural Development Honourable Kgotla Kenneth Autlwetse says in recent years Botswana has experienced a lot of changes hence a critical need for a Transformation Plan to propel the country forward.

Autlwetse said this at the ongoing three-day Inaugural Botswana Local Government Transformation Symposium held in collaboration with United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Maun.

He further said local communities need to be empowered adding that the use of cutting edge technology to reduce turnaround time and making services more accessible to Batswana is at the core of the Ministry’s functions.

Autlwetse also noted that decentralisation of services (empowering local governments), is key in the transformation that is to take place.

The Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development has developed a Strategy and Transformation Plan (MSTP 2021 – 2025), which is anchored on six strategic objectives that the Ministry aims to catapult Botswana forward with. These are aslo envisaged to set the Ministry on the right track towards achieving Vision 2036, the Reset and Reclaim Agenda, as well as other Government policy pronouncements.
