Mathula appointed ExpressCredit Botswana CEO

Charlotte Onneile Mathula has been appointed a Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of ExpressCredit Botswana, the Company has announced. Mathula is expected to strengthen the position and performance of the ExpressCredit’s product portfolio.

“As we lead ExpressCredit into the next chapter of growth, we sought a leader who truly exemplifies our commitment to promote financial inclusion in Botswana. Her diverse experience and passion for digital transformation are a great fit as we continue our journey to become the number one lending platform in Botswana.” Una Hewitt, a member of the Board at EC Finance Group, the holding company of ExpressCredit, said.

According to Mathula’s LinkedIn profile, she worked as Branch Manager for Botswana Building Society (BBS) from January 2007 until July 2008. She then moved to Standard Chartered Bank where she held a number of portfolios. Starting as Customer Services and Sales Manager in August 2008, moving through the ranks until leaving the bank as Head of Lending-Retail Banking in November 2016. From Standard Chartered Bank, she moved to First National Bank Botswana (FNBB) where she held a similar position of Head of Home Loans and Retail Lending from November 2016 to February 2018. Before moving to ExpressCredit, she worked for Letshego from 2018 to 2021. She started as Head of Financial Inclusion in March 2018, before working as Group Product Owner- Digital Lending from September 2020 until February 2021. From the above, Mathula has roughly Fifteen (15) years of experience in financial services.

Mathula holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Management from the University of Botswana, an Associate Diploma in Banking, a Certificate of proficiency in short-term and long-term insurance, an MBA and several digital transformations and fintech certifications. She has also attended the Executive Leadership Programme at Oxford Said Business School.
