Yesterday afternoon, the Ministry of Sport and Arts (MoSA) officially welcomed Mr. Olebile Ntsodi Matlapeng Sikwane as the new Chief Executive Officer of the Botswana National Sport Commission (BNSC). The event marked a strategic step in strengthening sport administration and aligning the Commission with national development priorities.

Representing the Permanent Secretary, DPS-Sports and Recreation, Ms. Boineelo Hardy set a clear agenda for the new leadership. She highlighted that the BNSC must align with the National Development Plan (NDP) 12, the Botswana Economic Transformation Plan (BETP), and the Ministry Strategy. Ms. Hardy stressed the importance of boosting revenue while prioritising sport development and finding innovative ways to reinvest funds into government coffers without compromising the Commission’s core mandate.

Board Chairperson, Mr. Marumo Morule, expressed gratitude to Minister Honourable Jacob Kelebeng for his support of the BNSC Board. He also acknowledged the dedication of Mr. Makuke Steve Makuke, who served as Acting CEO from April to December 2025. “Our relationship will be anchored in cooperation, integrity, and dedication,” Mr. Morule stated, noting that an intensive onboarding process for the new CEO begins this week.

Mr. Olebile Sikwane accepted the role with a commitment to transparency, prudent financial management, and internal restructuring. He pledged to lead the BNSC to greater heights, focusing on measurable results, accountability, and strengthening operations across the sport sector.

Minister Kelebeng reinforced the strategic direction, urging the BNSC to serve as an enabler for sport development nationwide. He stressed the importance of empowering National Sport Associations (NSAs) to execute their mandates effectively and contribute to a thriving sports ecosystem.

Adding to the strategic outlook, Ms. Tebogo Lebotse-Sebego encouraged a shift in public perception of the BNSC and promoted strengthened collaborations between the Ministry and State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs). These measures aim to enhance operational efficiency, create sustainable revenue streams, and advance the growth of sports in Botswana.

The appointment of Mr. Sikwane signals a renewed focus on professional leadership, financial accountability, and strategic partnerships. With clear directives and national priorities in mind, the BNSC is poised to play a pivotal role in developing sport, creating opportunities, and contributing to Botswana’s broader economic transformation.
